We really let this boy down. Found as an injured dog one weekend, we didn't realize the extent to which he was hurt. He was noble till the end. RIP 5/24/11

Bones
Bones crossed the Rainbow Bridge within a few hours of coming to us. She was emaciated and tested positive for parvovirus even though she was not symptomatic. We chose to allow her to go to the Bridge so that she could play happily with all the other dogs there. RIP, sweet girl. 4/18/11

Mrs. B and her family
Sometimes life just takes the wind out of your sails, and you can't figure it all out. Mrs. B came to us from a family who said she was a stray. She gave birth at their home to seven lovely little babies. We had them in our care in foster homes, but they suddenly became ill and were diagnosed with parvovirus. After the death of the first puppy, the others went downhill quickly, despite treatment by both the vet and their foster mom. We made the agonizing decision to allow them all to pass to the other side gently and with love. Rest in peace, little ones! Mrs. B, we will see you again. 2/18/11

Molly, who never gave up
Molly came to us from the county pound in Appomattox in April, 2010. We had an adopter who adored her, but the match was not long-lasting and Molly went into our foster care system, while we searched for a home. She was blind, and older, and we were never able to find her that sought-after forever home while she was in our care. Molly was loved and cared for by one of our foster parents all these months. She loved her home with them, and fit in well. When her foster discovered a tumor on her belly, we knew the probability of it being cancer was high, and the vet office agreed. We allowed her to cross the Bridge on Friday, February 11. Her foster mom was broken hearted, and will always keep this little girl in her thoughts.

Minnie, Always in our Hearts
Minnie had been trying to tell me something for several days and yesterday I finally understood. While checking to see who needed their nails trimmed I found a tumor between her toes. Barbe warned me that it probably was not good, that most of the time they were malignant. Dr Chemil said we could treat with predisone and antibotics for a while and make her comfortable but I chose to let her cross the bridge. I truly feel she was ready, as her legs would betray her from time to time and often when I called her it was like she did not hear me or was in another world. She still had her high spirit as she growled at Artie just before we left the house this evening for the vet appointment. It was almost like her body was failing her and she was still very proud of what life she still had. I feel so lucky to have had her with me for the past 6-7 months, she made this house complete. I will miss her daily, but am so glad that she knew I loved her when she passed. She laid her head down and just went to rest peacefully and no longer in pain. Thanks Minnie for loving me, I am so glad you became a bright spot in my life. Judy, 1/6/11
